Redding at a Glance
Sheltered in the south end of Northeast
California, Redding lies in Shasta County, roughly 12 mi (19 km) south of
the Shasta
Dam. The city provides visitors with distinguished attractions such as the
Redding
Convention Center, a multi-purpose facility that hosts a variety of exhibitions
and performances, including classical music and live theatre. The Turtle
Bay Park Museum and Arboretum is dedicated to interpreting the relationship
between humans and nature, boasting a 300-acre (121-ha) campus that includes botanical
gardens, museums, camps and trails . Beyond Redding's bounds lies the Shasta
State Historic Park, home to a substantial collection of artwork from across
California in addition
to exhibits covering the area's origins. Outdoor activities are well-represented
in the Redding area, with local fly fishing being especially popular. Area parks
and green space also make for prime hiking and canoeing opportunities.
